However, he is sometimes avoided by the ideology of political correctness from the feminist movement, he or she is said to be clumsy and they  is disliked as grammatically incorrect. This paper tried to make clear how these pronouns which referred to someone were used in current English in the British National Corpus. By searching the corpus< it was found that in spoken texts they was used in casual contexts.
