| 内容記述 | We were informed that Iris Murdoch passed away in February, 1999, She wrote 26 novels as well as poems, dramas, and many essays on philosophy and literature, Her last novel is Jackson's Dilemma published in 1995 as she entered mental decline due to Alzheimer's disease. In this short essay on her last novel, I posit that 'darkness' is the leading theme. Here, darkness is closely related to remorse, where 'remorse' is the main concept Heidegger's philosophy. This navel raises the question what might be the darkest, the most profound problem to us. Murdoch plays with the possibihties for solving this problem. This novel tells us how we go through life transitions through examining our own 'darkness'. We can appreciate her conceptions through her vivid images. | |||||||||||
